Kilimanjaro Hero Climbers Program

At Sabaya Tours, we believe that anyone who has overcome or continues to overcome extreme adversity every day is a hero. We have created a program to motivate, support and equip our heroes to climb and experience Mount Kilimanjaro. We believe that the experience of conquering Mount Kilimanjaro is therapeutic and life-transforming and should be experienced by anyone who so desires, regardless of physical or circumstantial limitations.

This program intends to achieve two goals; the first goal is to inspire and reassure you that it is possible to climb Mount Kilimanjaro regardless of the physical adversities you may currently be facing. The second goal is to reassure you that we will equip, support and take good care of you when you make the heroic decision to face the mountain head-on.

We equip, support and facilitate climbs for disabled people who have made the decision to face Mount Kilimanjaro and experience its grandeur. The decision to climb Kilimanjaro against all physical limitations is heroic and we vow to do everything in our power to make the experience as comfortable as possible.

A little bit of inspiration from others who have made it to the peak
  • Kyle Maynard, a quadruple amputee (has no arms and no legs due to congenital amputation), managed to crawl to the summit of Kilimanjaro unassisted back in 2012. Despite his condition, Kyle never let his disability stop him; he is an inspiration to all people and proves that with the right attitude, much can be achieved in life.
  • Bernard Goosen from South Africa has reached the peak of Mount Kilimanjaro in a wheelchair twice. The first summit was in 2003 and it took nine days; his second summit was in 2007 and it took only 6 days. In all attempts, he used a modified wheelchair and mostly climbed without any assistance.
  • On June 29,2009, eight blind climbers made it to the summit in an attempt to raise awareness and money for blind children in Arizona.
