Where Do Kilimanjaro Trips Begin?

Our trips to Mount Kilimanjaro begin in Arusha, Tanzania. Arusha is a town located on the lower slopes of Mount Meru and about 90 minutes from Moshi and about 45 minutes from Kilimanjaro International Airport.

The most convenient way to travel to Tanzania (Arusha & Moshi specifically) is to fly into Kilimanjaro International Airport (airport code: JRO). Arusha is approximately 60 km (45 minutes) from Kilimanjaro International Airport; we will pick you from the airport to your hotel in Arusha. We do airport transfers at any time, including late nights and early mornings.

If you are flying from North America, there are two ways to reach Kilimanjaro International Airport. You can fly KLM/Delta from a major US city into Amsterdam and then from Amsterdam you will fly directly to Kilimanjaro International Airport; this flight lands at JRO around 7:30 PM local time and is very popular.

The second option is to fly to Washington D.C to catch an Ethiopian Air flight to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia; from there you will fly directly to Kilimanjaro International Airport. This flight lands at JRO around 1:00 PM local time.

If you flying in from Zanzibar or a nearby country your flight may also land at Arusha Airport (ARK); which is a small airport within the city of Arusha. If you choose to arrive through Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (airport code: NBO) in Nairobi, you can take a daily shuttle from Nairobi to Arusha; the shuttle ride costs less than 50 USD and takes 4-5 hours. Depending on your nationality, you may have to buy a Kenyan visa to allow you to travel from Nairobi to the Kenya-Tanzania border.

NB: We do not provide transportation to and from Nairobi.
